About Us:
Here at Z-FEVER, Inc. we have been a leader in the Nissan performance industry
for 12 years. Our Techs have worked with Nissan Racing teams and with Nissan
Manufacturing in developing products that enhance the performance of your Nissan
vehicles. At one time the Nissan Z was all we concentrated on
until Nissan decided to take our beloved Z away from us.
Nissan lovers have found renewed interest in Nissan products in the form of
the SR20-DET engine. It is a 2.0liter in-line 4cylinder turbocharged powerhouse
that is capable of making lots of useable horsepower and torque. It has an all
aluminum block and head design and is chain driven and utilizes direct ignition.
Its Garrett t-2.5 turbo at 9 lbs. of boost helps it to put out 205hp at the
flywheel and with a 7400rpm redline it really screams.
Like so many of the Japanese auto manufacturers best engines the SR20-DET was
never brought to the US domestic market. In stead, it was only sold as a Japanese
Domestic Market or JDM engine that came stock in what is called the Silvia
or S-13, S-14, or S15 chassis. These cars were the JDM equivalent to the 240SX.
We began working with this hot little powerplant in 1999. Our customers were
instrumental in bringing the SR20-DET to our attention. We had so many requests
from them wanting us to swap out there factory 2.4lt normally aspirated engines
for the SR that we were intrigued by it. It didn’t take us long to go
out and purchase a 95 240SX and begin gutting it.
We made a few mistakes along the way. In fact, we made several. Figuring out
the wiring, deciding which ECU to run, whether or not to maintain the direct
ignition or go to a distributor and wire set up, which intercooler to run, which
mass air flow sensor to use, what to do about the location or size of the battery,
how to make the a/c and power steering still function, etc..
All of these questions had to be addressed, so we hired technicians with years of SR20-DET experience.
Since then we have done no less than 30 swaps. In any given week we usually
have several SR swaps going on in our service dept. We have expanded from just
putting them into the 240SX. We have put the SR into the 240Z, the 84-89 Z-31
300ZX, the Datsun 510, the 90-96 Z-32 300ZX, a 1969 Datsun 1600, and we even
built a go-cart frame and dropped it in there. (I don’t recommend the
go-cart chassis unless you are absolutely crazy about pulling serious g forces,
it is sick fast!!!!!).
We have built most of these cars well beyond the factory 205hp @ 7psi spec.
On almost all of them we have added a few extras to enhance the HP output. We
have gotten as much as 568hp out of this little 2.0L motor. It has the ability
to put out much more than that and I’ve seen 700hp examples out there.
Usually, without too many upgrades we get a reliable 300hp @ 14.5psi. Put that
in a 3000lb chassis and you are breaking into the 13’s in the quarter mile.
We have been designing and manufacturing our own line of products for 12 years.
Now that we have entered the SR market we saw the need to begin making our own
parts for the SR as well. We don’t believe that performance and quality
have to break the bank. We find a way to manufacture with improved quality for
the same price or the same quality at a better price or both. Our products are
race proven and time tested. Our fit and finish is superb and we pay close attention
to aesthetics and style.
